  • Scholarship applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and a resident of the State of Texas.
  • Scholarship applicant exhibits leadership qualities as determined by the scholarship selection committee.
  • Scholarship applicant should be (1) an undergraduate majoring in Computer Science, (2) a graduate in MSDA, or (3) a graduate pursuing a graduate certificate in Data Analytics.
  • Scholarship recipient must maintain a 3.50 or better cumulative GPA.

CHSS International Association of Administrative Professionals-Houston Chapter Endowed Scholarship

NOTES: The International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) is a 501 (c)(6) registered not for-profit professional association for office professionals founded in 1942 as the National Secretaries Association. IAAP strives to be the premier network and resource for the administrative profession. We ensure individuals working in office and administrative professions have the opportunity to connect, learn, lead and excel. The Houston Chapter was charted under IAAP on September 28, 1948. From the early years of Houston Chapter's existence, education and advancement of the administrative profession and our community have been at the forefront of the chapter's activities. From creating its first Chapter Scholarship in 1952, at the University of Houston, to establishing an endowment at Sam Houston State University in the early 1980s, to creating this endowed scholarship at the University of Houston-Downtown, the IAAP Houston Chapter has a proud history of partnering with academic institutions and supporting the next generation of administrative professionals.​

NOTES: Longtime UHD staff member Lloyd Matzner retired from UHD in spring 2019, after 38 years of dedicated service. Matzner held many roles during his time at the university. Starting in 1981 as Coordinator of Audio Visual Services, Lloyd served in subsequent roles as Director of Audio Visual Services, Assistant Director of University Relations, Interim Director of University Relations, Director of Multimedia Services and Instructional Television, and Assistant Director of Technology Learning Services. Throughout his career at UHD, Matzner maintained a focus on encouraging the use of technology to enhance students’ learning experience. 
Matzner graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor's degree in Broadcast Communications and later earned a master's degree in Educational Technology from the University of Southern California. 
Matzner has also been an adjunct instructor with UHD since 1987. He has taught mass media, sociology, business foundations and business communication courses for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Marilyn Davies College of Business. As of 2021, he continues to serve UHD students an adjunct instructor. 
This scholarship has been created by his partner and wife, Marlene Matzner, as a fitting tribute to Lloyd’s years of dedicated service, recognizing the countless ways that he has helped support students as they seek to advance their lives through education.
